To be an ethical brand taking a responsible approach to materials and the planet whilst helping to strengthen women’s role in society.
The Jacksons was founded by two sisters, Joey and Louise Jackson.
It was in 2012 that a collaboration was born between the Jackson sisters and the skilled artisans of southwest Bangladesh, creating not only beautiful, sustainable handmade jute bags, but also humorous and colourful placemats and beaded handbags. The Jacksons have grown from a workforce of less than 100 women to more than 3,000 women in Bangladesh in an area where there are few employment opportunities for them. They do more than just design and create a brand: they strive to help overcome poverty and improve the social status of women. They also work with small artisan communities in other parts of Bangladesh. All these teams are predominantly made up of women, who are paid directly, giving them independence and status, and empowering them to make decisions within their families. They now have access to free medical care and schools thanks to this collaboration. A large percentage educate their daughters up to sixth grade and some go to university.
